Spinnaker

Recently, Target posted a blog about our work with Spinnaker and a friend of mine asked what makes Spinnaker better than all the alternatives. First, lets dispense with the disclaimers. One, this are my views and opinions, not those of my employer, Target. Two, I started working on the project–hired at Target–after Spinnaker was chosen as the deployment too, so I was not part of the evaluation. Three, I am new the DevOps world. [Read More]

Antichamber

Imagine waking up in an dark room. Instructions are painted on the wall. You can see an exit, but it is behind glass. There is a clock counting down, an hour & twenty-nine minutes left. An incomplete map on the all, only the room you are in is on the map. That is the start of Antichamber. Antichamber is first person puzzle game. You walk down white, plain corridors with misleading clues. [Read More]

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Shit! This game freaks me out. You wake up not knowing where you are in some estate in the 18th or 19th century. There are the obvious clues of reading some cryptic journal & such not. & then you step out of the light & you go crazy. The effects of your vision being distorted & blurred & your controls become difficult & unresponsive. Seriously, I don’t like freaky games cause I like to sleep at night. [Read More]

140

The first game on my list is 140. It is beautiful simple platformer. It starts simple & just gets harder. There is no HUD, no menu, & no explication of anything. Minimal at its best. It starts with vibrant title screen & the game starts when you press the spacebar. Then you get a white square on black & gray background. The square is you. When you move, it turns into a circle. All the Games

Last week, my wife bought me a new computer for video games. Aren’t I lucky? It isn’t anything special. A budget gaming machine, but it is marveiouly fast compared to the old iMac I had been using for games. I was too impatient to order the parts online, so my wife and I went to the local Micro Center. Of course, one the first things I did was install Steam. Due to my lack of willpower & a Steam sale or two, I have many games I have never played. [Read More]

Redesign Again

I got the itch to start blogging again. But did I start blogging? No. Instead, I migrated from Octopress to Jekyll. With the release of Jekyll 2, many of the niceties of Octopress were built right into Jekyll, so I didn’t see a point to stay with Octopress. It wasn’t a bad migration, though the theme I had been using was getting ugly to maintain. While I liked the theme, it was overly complex for my needs. [Read More]

Leaky Carbs

Last weekend, I got the carbs for my bike put back together. Put them on the bike, ran into the house to get the key. Hoping it will start right up. I came back to the garage to find it just pouring gas out onto the floor. Looks like some of the o-rings that I didn’t have replacements for are shot. New ones should be delivered tomorrow. Here is to hopeing to get it all done this weekend. [Read More]

Vanilla Ice Cream

I use to make ice cream weekly. I sort of fell out of the habit a couple years ago and am working to correct that problem. I have a quart of amazing chocolate ice cream in the freezer right now. And for Easter, I am making a batch of vanilla ice cream. Between the two, that should cover most everyone’s tastes. I always favor frozen custard style of ice creams with cooking the egg yolks with the milk. [Read More]

Rebuilding Carbs

Spring is here, sort of. I want to get my motorcycle out enjoy the weather that we will see one day. Before I do that, I really need to rebuild my carbs. I had a guy look at them last year. He got them sort of cleaned up, but I would feel better with a complete teardown, thorough cleaning, and rebuild. Of course to do all this, I have been shaving yaks every weekend for the past month. Words are hard

I have not blogged in a long time. I need to correct that. I sincerely hope that today is the day.
